Spring Classes

Class is in Session!

Spring 2014

Time to start up another round of our classes: Building Blocks and it's new big sister, Building in Color. Read on for details and if interest call or email to save a seat. 209-728-8261 or maisieblue@gmail.com.

Building Blocks

Ready to to take your knitting to the next level? Experienced but wanting to shore up your skills? Always saying "someday I'll learn to knit better...." or "I'm so tired of knitting scarves? Then this class is for you.

It's a "beyond the basics" series based on Michelle Hunter's Building Blocks course and videos. You'll learn a slew of new techniques and skills as you work through twelve blocks. Each block teaches new elements progressively, to cement your knitting knowledge. But it's biggest lesson: Confidence - the key element to becoming a better knitter.  Never again fear the dreaded dropped stitch, or the mysterious language of reading knits and purls, or how to seam.

We meet every two weeks for thirteen classes to cover the 12 blocks, plus a class on seaming. Classes are informal, relaxed, nurturing sessions, with an emphasis placed on fostering your confidence and skills. Even the most intimidated students emerge as self-assured knitters by the end of the class. Make-up classes available for those weeks when it's impossible to attend a class. Many find they so enjoyed the class they continue to come to our Maisie Mondays just to keep up their knitting momentum.

 Building in Color

You're comfortable knitting. Can "tink" like a pro and no drop stitch frightens you. Do you courageously jump into a new project without batting an eye and enjoy a challenge?  Then welcome to the next step: Building in Color.

Here the goal is mastering color knitting techniques. Same structure as the Building Blocks but this time we go wild with colors. Instead of blocks we do ten strips for a sampler blanket with a combo of color and new advanced techniques: intarsia (yes...first lesson right off the bat....dreaded intarsia and intarsia cables too!!!); mosaic stitch, double-ended knitting, bunch of new stitch patterns like star, elongated, butterfly and tuck stitch, plus others. We finish it off with a lovely picot edging. You can choose your size: full size afghan, baby blanket or even a mini doll blanket. Choice is yours but regardless of size,  you'll be amazed at the new skills you develop in the process. As always Michelle Hunter provides extensive video lessons to help and our class sessions will make learning advance techniques seem like a piece of cake!
