December Calls for Fast & Chunky

It's not too late to work up a few handmade gifts. Really.... it's not!

Big yarn, big needles, easy pattern that's all you need. And fast fingers. And lots of binge-watching in your tv queue. (PBS started reruns for Downtown Season 5 to prep us for the final season debut in Jan....(sniff...tears at the thought of it ending) Oh and there's a new season of Miss Fischer's Mysteries on Netflix.....plus a gazillion Hallmark Christmas movies continuously.  I won't bore you with my annotated ranking list....just email if you want it! LOL)

What to make?
Have a gander at our Fast Gifts queue on Ravelry for 2 pages of ideas. These projects are easy & fast; yarns in stock  to cast so you can cast on asap. Listed in no particular order....just culled from my massive queue to inspire. Keep reading for what's popular in shop the past few weeks in the fast & chunky category.

2 balls, 69 stitches for warm snuggly cowl in a few hours. Easily substitute past year's favorite Brio if you want a little sparkle. Big needle....we're talking #15! Both yarns flying off shelves right now. Use the Churchmouse Last Minute Cowl recipe if you want it a bit more "fancy" but still just as fast.

Love, love the gorgeous long color shifts of Amitola and it's new bigger sister, Amitola Grande. This time of year go for the Grande! Luscious 20 silk/80 wool blend that knit up to Aran - Chunky-ish gauge. The lovely Ms. Harding just released several wonderful free patterns too! A perfect one ball project:

Pattern below calls for 1 ball Amitola Grande + Trenzar---but I'm using Inca Tweed. The new Moonshine Chunky pairs just as nicely. Fun to knit and I prefer it looped twice around the neck...and it's also a free pattern. We have tear off patterns in the shop at the moment too.

Next pattern not really "fast" but couldn't resist including since we have those colors in stock. It uses either Amitola (fingering) or the Amitola Grande (aran). How cool is that?

Absolutely Unique Noro: Rainbow Rolls

Brand new. Big discs of Noro pencil-roving. Rainbow Rolls are a truly multi-functional, multi-tasking fiber: You can knit, crochet, weave, spin and needle-felt it. Seriously! Mr. Noro isn't advertising it...but it also doubles as awesome christmas decorations! Makes perfect gift as is for other fiber-loving loved ones

I cast on for Benjamin Mathew's Rainbow Roll Shawl on Thanksgiving day and it's lovely to knit if a bit delicate. If you are a Noro-nut....you'll understand my love for this new fun disc of fiber-loveliness.

Ella Rae Lush Merino
Hand-painted roving merino! Suggested needle is #11 - 17 with huge gauge range and potential. I'm thinking of whipping up a Lush Merino Cowl or Red Rasta Cowl tonight while watching the newest Hallmark debut!

Workhorse Chunky Yarns
Needing sturdy, no-nonsense chunky yarn? Berroco's Ultra Alpaca Chunky and Tonals solid performer with new tonal shades this year. It's fast on #10-11 needle. I love this yarn! Nice for hats, gloves, cowls...

My 2nd favorite chunky-bulky this time of year: Peruvia Quick. Looser plied than Ultra Alpaca Chunky but can handle up to a #15 needle. Big reorder arrived last week with tons of new colors!

Just one more...... Inca Tweed. New colors added to this great tweed chunky from last year:

Wait.... I lied.... there's more.....brand new Queensland Katmandu Aran. Gorgeous tweed with touch of cashmere for added softness. Free patterns: hat = 1 hank. Shawl = 4. Sorry for dark picture that totally doesn't show off the rich deep jewel tone colors we have. Trust me...they are wonderful!

Last bit.... Socks are here! We always look forward to our new batch of ready-to-wear Onlinie Socks
This year's doesn't disappoint either. I should have ordered more because they are going fast:

Curious which lines we carry? Check out our list on Ravelry. Our name will show up on the yarn page too-bottom right corner too.
