New Juniper Moon Farms Nimbus Lines and Cotton Yarn Recap

 Squeee! Chunky Cumulus (aka Nimbus)

Okay this new line seriously made us squeal with delight! Juniper Moon Farms expands their popular Cumulus line with Nimbus, a chunky version, and Nimbus Paints, a chunky multicolor.

For cuddly, soft, durable cotton we grab any of the Juniper Moon's Cumulus, Nimbus or Nimbus Paints. It's a high quality Isreali Mako cotton, made in Italy and uses cotton with a touch of nylon to help improve it's memory. The mako cottons are some of the finest, luxury cottons historically grown in Upper Egypt (and now Isreal) know for its characteristic long fiber which allows for finer spinning to yield a stronger, smoother yet finer cotton yarn. It's picked and processes by hand thus more environmentally friendly. All this means some of the softest cotton yarns!

This week several new shop samples arrived, so come by to see the Cumulus and Nimbus. Can’t beat holding a finished item. Seeing is believing! Megan dangerously close to finishing up an adorable granny square baby stroller blankie. Who knew granny squares would be trending but they are!

There’s also a new worsted weight Cumulus Degrede. It’s just like Cumulus Rainbow but tonal. Glorious! For those who don’t like working with cottons…this will convert you to loving cotton.

All the Cumulus and Nimbus yarns are chainette style. These are extra durable and means less growing or stretching out, typical with standard cottons. The touch of nylon does an amazing job of the wet garment bouncing back in shape once dried. Hence a perfect yarn choice for any garments, baby blankets, kids garments, afghans, etc....

There’s something about the chainette structure of the yarn that makes it not only soft but sturdy. You wouldn’t think just 6% nylon would work so well but this makes the Israeli Mako Cotton behave! Springs right back into shape.

Chained yarn + nylon = perfect yarn for children's projects of all types. The chainette is basically an i-cord or shoe lace. Increased strength works great with cottons, know for "growing" or stretching out with wear. This is where nylon comes in. It gives the yarn memory to retain it's shape.
I was shocked just how much my Sliding Is Fun shop sample grew after it’s wet block bath. It was seriously huge. Once dried it was back to normal size. This makes it a no brained for all things baby, kid and perfect for soft, cuddly, comfy pullovers etc. knit and crochet.

Oh and this free, easy pattern is seriously fun! Many a customer made multiples of this perfectly sized stroller blanket. Takes 1 ball Cumulus Rainbow, 1 ball Cumulus. Half the fun is picking out which colors to use! I finished the one above and immediately cast on a second in bright oranges, yellows and turquoise! (I know....it's not surprising I cast on another projects as much as it is I finished something first!).

Oh no..... I just spotted a Cumulus Degrade version of Sliding Is Fun (rjdelmore's Cloudy Slide) I fear a 3rd cast on looms!
Shoot! I forgot I wanted to make this too..... Iris Shawl by Danielle Comeau..... At least it's another free pattern! And it'll be a perfect travel-project. I always can use more of those.....

Perfectly Gorgeous Crochet!

All of the Juniper Moon Farms Cumulus and Nimbus yarns are awesome for crochet. This soft, durable structure yields drapery, cuddly crochet blankets and garments. At a tighter gauge they’re perfect for toys, baskets, bags etc… Great range of colors make these yarns our go to yarns for all things Baby, Cuddly and Soft.
Cottons: Not All Created Equal
Not all cotton is just rough cotton. There's variety of grades, quality, types etc.... that in turn yield different yarns. There's "dishcloth cotton," aka lower grade, less expensive, rougher (think Sugar & Cream). These do a perfect job for projects get put through the ringer (dishwasher, washing machine, garbage disposal on accident.... Introducing our Brand new Cotton Workshorse:

Queensland Coastal Cotton bridges the affordable yet soft, durable 100% cotton category. They come in adorable, old-fashioned little wound skeins too! Good news. All 30 colors should be in the shop by mid August! Great choice when you're wanting sturdy, soft yet affordable. Pefect for dish cloths and kid's toys too.

See.... I told you granny squares are hot right now! This bucket hat super popular this summer: Maya

Pima Cottons = Lexus of Cottons

When it comes to garments or giftable projects you'll want higher quality 100% cotton, like our Pima 100 or Pima Soft, Vivo (yeah a multicolor pure cotton).

Just remember cotton has no memory (happens to the best of us!). Fortunately these Berroco pima's hold shape well. Even better are the Berroco's Modern Cotton, Modern Cotton DK (cotton/rayon), which have a lovely cool-touch and drape due to the rayon. The DK has fantastic yardage too so great choice for garments and blankets if you enjoy smaller size needles.

There's massive Berroco pattern support for all the Modern Cottons. If you want a reliable, wide range colors, excellent for kids, babies, garments, blankets, etc.....then these are your yarns. We have a wide selection on the shelves right now beacuse:  1) summer, 2) hot as hades, 3) thought of working with wool SO unappealing!
