Baby Blankets

Baby Blankets never go out of style. Lately we're seeing lots of lovely blankets created for wee ones. Luckily we have perfect patterns and yarns to make precious family heirlooms.

Excited to see this smaller version of the larger Lake Blanket pattern I adore....but this time scaled down so there's hope I'd actually finish! Colors stripe in an ombre mosaic stitch (sounds hard but it's just slip stitch and dead easy). This Baby Lake is a crib size.

Recently you read our spotlight on the Cumulus yarns so just a reminder... it makes THE BEST baby blankets ever! Crochet's like a dream and knits up beautifully. It's larger gauge can be bumped up a bit  and I often go up to a 9 or 10, even with my looser-style natural gauge.

If using the Berroco patterns above, remember that's a sport/dk weight yarn. If using Cumulus, a worsted weight yarn, you'll get a bigger sized blanket and have to adjust yardage accordingly. Not an onerous substitution but just reminder it's not a straight sub. Most baby sized blankets take about 4 hanks of a Cumulus (apx 30x30") and for stroller/crib/lovey size 2 hanks (apx 24" square).

One more shout out to my current favorite fun knit pattern: Sliding Is Fun. I love it so much fighting urge to cast on a second one in darker, bolder colors. It was a perfect easy pattern for binge watching. I hank solid Cumulus and 1 cake Cumulus Rainbow. That's it! Free pattern online.

Project of the Week: Comfort Baby Blankets

Super excited about the newest Berroco Project of the Week! So much so I've stopped everything to write up a new blog post and get the kits up in our online shop asap.

Moderne (Left)                            Solaria (Right)

Years ago Berroco published a fantastic book: Comfort Knitting and Crochet: Babies and Toddlers. 50 patterns total both knit and crochet, designed by Norah Gaughan and the Berroco Design Team. Plenty of classics in this book of blanket, garments and adorable accessories.

These new kits from Berroco highlight two knit patterns: Solaria (chunky solid)and Moderne (worsted multicolors). Kits ship directly to you from Berroco ($10 shipping). You'll have a great book for all your Baby and Toddler project needs, present and future. Order your Kits here on our website.

Moderne Kit: Color options are below:
#2 Neutral

#3 Pastel

Here's peek at some of our favorite patterns in the book:

Crocheters Fear Not: There's many adorable patterns included in the book. If any of these call out to you let us know and we'll put together kits. Just email or call!

This last blanket is a favorite of mine and I'm very tempted to once again attempt a fun crochet, ripply style project....even though I've failed often in past! Ripples are hard! LOL
